Sex Offender Registration Requirements

Individuals mandated to register as sex offenders who attend classes at any Yuba Community College District (YCCD) college, campus or center shall register with the law enforcement agency that has jurisdiction over the location where they will attend.  Registration must be completed in accordance with federal regulations.

  • Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act (42 U.S.C. § 14071)
  • The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (20 U.S.C. § 1092)
  • Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act (42 U.S.C. § 16921)

California Penal Code Requirements

Any person convicted of sex offenses under California Penal Code § 290 who is enrolled as a student, or employed full-time or part-time (with or without compensation), or is carrying on a vocation (e.g. contractor), at a community college for more than 14 days, or for an aggregate period exceeding thirty (30) days in a calendar year is required to register within 5 days of commencing enrollment or employment (§ 290.009).

Registrants must notify the appropriate law enforcement agency within five working days of ceasing to be enrolled, employed, or ceasing to continue a vocation (e.g., contractor) at a community college.

Under California Penal Code § 290.1(d)(1), law enforcement may release sex offender registration information to members of the campus community.

Megan’s Law

California’s Megan’s Law (Penal Code § 290.46) mandates the California Department of Justice (DOJ) to notify the public about specified registered sex offenders. Public information regarding sex offenders in California may be obtained by viewing the Department of Justice’s Online Megan’s Law Site.
