Online Orientation - Section 5
Yuba College is strongly committed to you, the student. We want to provide
you with all the resources you need to complete your educational goal.
There are a variety of services available:
- Assessment Center
The Assessment Center offers the required placement testing in the areas
of English, math and reading. No appointment is necessary during normal
business hours for the College, however you need to report to the Center
at least two hours before the College’s closing time to provide
ample time to complete the process. (Location: Building 100B). Click
here to go to the Assessment Center web page.
- Career Center
The Career Center provides a process to lead students through various
assessments and give them the necessary tools to make career and life
planning decisions. Tools available to assist with this process include
career and vocational inventories, as well as computer-assisted career
research software. (Location: Building 100B). Click
here to go to the Career Center web page.
- Child Development Center
Students with children may want to check out the Child Development Center.
Child care is provided for infants and toddlers (3-36 months), preschoolers
(3-5 years), and school-age (5-7 years). State Preschool is available
9:00a.m. – Noon at no charge to eligible parents. (Location: Building
1600).
- Counseling
Counseling is an essential part of Yuba College, designed to complement
and facilitate the instructional program and to aid students with academic,
career, and personal counseling.
Students are strongly encouraged to see their counselor at least twice
each semester to confer on matters pertaining to satisfactory adjustment
to college life and progress toward educational/career goals. Students
receiving financial aid or Veterans Benefits are required to have a
current Student Educational Plan (SEP) on file, developed with the assistance
of their counselor. All students can benefit from having a SEP once
they have determined their educational goal. (Location: Building 100B).
- Disabled Students Programs & Services (DSP&S)
DSP&S attempts to equalize educational opportunities for students
with disabilities that impact their academic participation. Assessment
for learning disabilities is available for students experiencing difficulty
in their classes, or who have a history of special education needs.
Support services for eligible students may include appropriate academic
accommodations. New students who have a physical disability or who believe
they might have a learning disability may contact the DSPS office prior
to taking the placement exam or going through the orientation and registration
process. (Location: Building 1800). Click
here to go to the DSP&S web page.
- Educational Opportunity Programs & Services (EOP&S)
This State-funded program provides financial assistance and educational
support services to financially and educationally disadvantaged students.
Included in the educational support services are: career planning, academic
and transfer counseling, tutoring, support from trained peers, and advising.
The program serves new students and continuing students who meet the
eligibility requirements. (Location: Building 100B)
- Financial Aid
The role of the Financial Aid Office is to help eligible students pursue
their educational goals. The Financial Aid Office attempts to fill the
financial gap that may exist between the cost of education and the money
available to students from family, employment, savings and other resources.
Assistance is provided through federal, state, and institutional grants;
scholarships; the Federal Stafford Loan program; and work study awards.
As indicated under “Critical Deadlines”, the first step
to pursue financial assistance is to complete the Free Application for
Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. Assistance is available through the
Financial Aid Office to complete the FAFSA online. (Location: Building
100B). Click here
to go to the Financial Aid web page.
- Transfer Center
The Transfer Center offers services and resources for students seeking
information about four-year colleges and universities. A resource library
of college catalogs is available, or students can use COLLEGE SOURCE
, a website that presents information on colleges and universities in
a standard format that makes it easier to compare different institutions.
Representatives from regional universities are available on a regularly
scheduled basis to meet with students planning to transfer. (Location:
Building 100B). Click
here to go to the Transfer Center web page.
- Tutoring/College Success Center
The CSC offers free tutoring in many subject areas and computer-assisted
instruction in math, reading and English. Students are required to prepare
for each tutoring session by completing all current assignments in their
course. Follow-up on student performance has demonstrated repeatedly
that over 80% of students who attend their tutoring sessions throughout
the semester pass their course and are able to move on to the next level.
Note: Tutoring slots fill up fast. Submit your request
the first week of the semester, or as soon possible thereafter. (Location:
Building 1100).
- Veterans Affairs
The Veterans Affairs Office provides assistance to veterans and veterans’
dependents who are eligible for educational benefits. Furthermore, the
VA Office acts as a liaison with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
(Location: Building 1800). Click
here to go to the Veterans Affairs web page.
