Online Orientation - Section 1

What can you do at a Community College?

  • Earn an Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) Degree
Yuba College offers a wide variety of two-year degrees. In order to earn an associates degree you must complete 60 units, including general education and major requirements, and have a 2.0 grade point average. Other items for graduation include a multicultural, health and physical education requirement. Click here to see the Yuba College Graduation Checklist

  • Earn a Certificate
Certificates are more focused on training for specific job opportunities and/or skill development. Certificates prepare students for entry-level employment opportunities. Many students obtain a certificate, begin working in that career field, and then continue pursuing a degree on a part-time basis.

  • Transfer to a 4-Year College or University
Complete lower division general education and major requirements through Yuba College’s articulated transfer curriculum. Yuba College courses are articulated with the California State University System, the University of California and many private and public universities nationally. Statistics indicate that students who transfer to a four-year institution do just as well or better than students who enrolled at the four year institution as freshmen. (Note: The term “lower division” refers to transfer courses (courses numbered 1-49) offered at community colleges, and courses designed for freshman and sophomore students at universities. “Upper division” courses are courses offered by universities, and designed for junior and senior level students).

  • Career Advancement/Career Change
Many returning students are already employed, but are taking courses that will lead to new opportunities for advancement in their career. Other students are taking courses in preparation for a change in their career path.

  • Specific Skills Development and/or Personal Interest
The Yuba College curriculum is varied and comprehensive allowing students to select a course of study that meets their individual needs. You may select courses to gain job specific skills and/or courses that are of personal interest, demonstrating that learning is a lifelong process.
