English as a Second Language (ESL)

The ESL Program is designed to provide assistance and support to non-native English speakers. The goal of the instructional program is to help ESL students develop their communication skills in English and prepare them to transition into other academic subjects, vocational programs and career fields.

The ESL Program at Yuba College offers classes from the beginning level (Level 1) through high intermediate-advanced levels (Level 4- 5). The daytime sections offer skill- specific classes such as grammar, reading, writing, listening& pronunciation. The evening courses integrate these skill areas.

Additionally, Vocational ESL (VESL) courses are offered for students in levels 2-5.

Currently, VESL courses include English for Work, English for Computer Job Search, and English for Office. Specific vocational classes such as English for Auto and English for Early Childhood Education (ECE) are also offered on a rotational basis as needed.
