BSI LogoThe Basic Skills Initiative (BSI) is a collaborative statewide effort to address the needs of community college students who are academically under-prepared to succeed.  The BSI is funded by a grant from the CCC Chancellor’s Office.  It is intended to facilitate basic skills education and to provide extended professional development opportunities for faculty and staff.  The long term goal is to develop strategies to improve the success/retention rates for under-prepared students, which in turn will generate enrollment growth that will provide continued funding of these strategies.

BSI Project Team
The Basic Skills Initiative Project Team serves as the Yuba College Committee to recommend a plan related to improving basic skills/ESL instruction, specifically in conjunction with the separate BSI/ESL emphasis and reporting requirements from the CCC Chancellor’s Office.  It is responsible for reviewing all statewide initiatives, creating a recommendation for implementing a BSI/ESL plan, and reporting the college-wide goals per state guidelines.
