Bio:

Yuba College women's basketball head coach Steve Sain begins his second season at the helm of the 49er program and his eleventh season as a collegiate head coach.

In his first season at Yuba, Sain orchestrated a 49er program that produced an 18-11 record. The 18 wins was the most ever by a Yuba College women's team. The 2008-09 49er's also finished with a 13-3 conference record while churning out two first-team all Bay Valley Conference players and garnering Sain BVC Coach of the Year honors.

Before taking over at Yuba, Sain was the head coach at California Baptist University in Riverside, Calif., from 2004-2007. In his three seasons at California Baptist, Sain guided the Lancers to three consecutive Golden State Athletic Conference play-off appearances and brought the Lancers their first winning season in fifteen years when they finished 17-13 in 2007.

In addition, the 2007 Lancers set two university records in averaging 81 points per game and netting 278 three point baskets on the season. Both statistics ranked in the top 5 nationally in the NAIA Division 1 categories.

Prior to coaching at California Baptist University, Sain was the head coach at his alma mater, Simpson University in Redding, Calif., from 2002-2004. He also spent 4 seasons (1998-2002) as the head coach at Bethany University in Scotts Valley, Calif. Both schools are NAIA Division II members and part of the California Pacific Conference.

At Simpson, Sain took the Redhawks to a pair of NCCAA National Tournament appearances in 2003 and 2004. In each of his 2 seasons, he was named the NCCAA West Region Coach of the Year.

At Bethany, Sain was named the CalPac's Coach of the Year in 2001. He led the Bruins to an overall record of 18-10 that year, which included the program's first-ever winning season, its first post-season victory and the school's first NAIA Top 25 ranking.

As a player, Sain spent two seasons at Gavilan College in Gilroy, before transfering for his final 2 seasons at Simpson. While at Simpson, Sain was a 2-time All-California Coastal Conference first team selection and earned NCCAA All-American honorable mention honors. He set the school's single-game scoring record with 53 points in 1995. Sain finished the season averaging 26 points and 12 rebounds per game.

Sain graduated from Simpson University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science and completed his California teaching credential from Simpson as well.
