Preseason Ranked 49'ers start season with tough win.. - (Date Last Updated: 11/16/2008)

The 2008-09 Yuba College 49'ers who were preseason ranked by Sporting News Magazine as the #20 ranked team in the country got off to a slow start. The Yuba College Mens Basketball team opened the season against a Shasta College Team who has been riding an emotional roller coaster so far in this early part of the season. The great Shasta College coach-Kelly Fitzhue was diagnosed before the season started with a cancer in his neck. He has been getting treatment at the Stanford medical center in Palo Alto, Ca since September. In an emotional return for all coaches on both sides the Yuba College Basketball team squeeked out an 72-61 victory in Coach Fitzhues first game back coaching his team so far this season. Shasta College played very inspired and never quit getting as close as 2 points with under 3 minutes to play. Yuba hit a couple big shots and had a monster dunk from Bobby Evans with a minute left that put the game out of reach for the Knights of Shasta College.
Freshman Cervante Burrell and Keenan Prince led the 49'ers in scoring with 16 and 13 points and freshman Tyler Monroe chipped in 6 points and a game high 12 rebounds.
Yuba will play their next game against Ohlone College who is currently the #2 ranked team in California. The game will be played in the 1st round of the Shasta College Tournament at 4pm in Redding, Ca.
