The Jeanne Clery Act

The Jeanne Clery Act requires the compilation and disclosure of Campus Crime Statistics, disclosure of Campus Safety Policies, Timely Warning requirements and disclosure of Crime Log Information. Further The Jeanne Clery Act mandates the collection of information regarding incidents from non-law enforcement “campus security authorities” having “significant responsibility for student or campus activities.”

The Yuba Community College District Police Department (YCCDPD) has the responsibility for gathering statistics, identifying reportable crimes and reporting/publishing statistics to the Department of Education, the FBI, and to the public. Statistics are reported in different formats and categories depending upon legal requirements: FBI reports include different crimes from The Jeanne Clery Act, while The Jeanne Clery Act requires statistics to be reported from a wider geographic area than the FBI (e.g., adjacent public property), and also requires reports of student disciplinary referrals in addition to arrests for drug, alcohol, and weapons offenses.

In compliance with The Jeanne Clery Act, the Yuba Community College District Police Department has produced this handbook. Also the Department of Education Office of Post Secondary Education. Statistics are available on-line at: http://ope.ed.gov/security/.

Production of the Crime Statistics and Campus Safety Information handbook begins in January with the collection of crime statistics and development of a design. The information/statistics compiled for the Campus Security Report is for the previous calendar year based upon crime reports received by the Yuba Community College District Police Department; from crime statistics received from outside agencies; and from incident reports received from other “Campus Security Authorities.”
