Sluzalis taught mathematics at Yuba College throughout the mid-decades of the past century. His experiences at Yuba College, in combination with his excellent education within the University of California system, inspired this scholarship. Details of the scholarship’s criteria are elaborated below: 1. Two scholarships are to be distributed from the fund in years when interest and dividends afford the college with the opportunity to do so. The amount may vary in accordance with the performance of the Foundation’s investment. 2. The scholarship may only be given to students who are legal residents of Yuba County. 3. The scholarship may only be given to students transferring to a school in the University of California system. The Trust Agreement states explicitly that scholarships are not to be awarded to students transferring to the CSU system. 4. The scholarship recipient must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better. GPA is the sole criterion and those with the GPA should be awarded the scholarship. 5. Continuing Application Deadline: April 1 Award Range: $1200 Minimum GPA: 3.0 Bhagwanti Ohri is a longstading resident of the Yuba-Sutter area who migrated to the U.S. from the Punjab at an early age. She is an advocate of both diversity and academic excellence. Mrs. Ohri looks to provide scholarship support to someone who similarly embraces diversity and who is in tune to the cultural interest of Punjabi/Indian women. The scholarship, for $1,200 is open to students from any background, who have completed 24 units, and who have maintained a 3.0 GPA during their collegiate-level studies. This scholarship will be offered only once, to a single recipient. David/Catherine Conroy Scholarship To Whom Is This Open? Incoming Application Deadline: August 1 Award Range: $300 (3 Recipients) Minimum GPA: N/A David Kearin served as both a Counselor and Chief Testing Officer at Yuba College between 1964-1969. This scholarship memorializes two individuals who believed strongly in American public education. This scholarship is available to students who are facing economic or social barriers. Open to students from all majors. This scholarship is offered to assist students with the purchase of textbooks. Dress Family Scholarship To Whom Is This Open? Incoming/Continuing/Transfer Application Deadline: April 1 Award Range: $2000 Minimum GPA: 3.0 Mr. And Mrs. Ted Dress enjoyed success in agricultural retailing and realty in the Yuba-Sutter region. They settled in the Yuba-Sutter area in 1962 and became active community members. The Dress family believes strongly in a well-rounded technical education. Scholarship will be awarded, as funds are available, to full-time students majoring in automotive technologies at Yuba College. The award can be sustained by a student throughout his/her entire undergraduate education (for up to five years). Upon completion of the student’s associate’s degree in automotive technologies, he/she may transfer the scholarship to a 4-year university to continue in a technically based major. A 3.0 GPA in the student’s major is critical to both initial and ongoing eligibility. Must maintain a 3.0 GPA while at Yuba and in their technology-based major when they transfer to a four-year institution. Their cumulative GPA (including all coursework) must, at all levels of study, exceed 2.0. Incoming college freshman, with a 2.5 cumulative high school GPA, are eligible for consideration. Scholarship is renewable by re-applying each year. Harold R. Sawtell Scholarship To Whom Is This Open? Incoming/Continuing Application Deadline: April 1 Award Range: $500 - $1000 (50 Recipients) Minimum GPA: The Yuba College Foundation offers scholarships in the name of Harold R. Sawtell. Mr. Sawtell, a lifetime Colusa, Sacramento, and Sutter County rancher, died in 1979 leaving one-half of his estate to the Yuba College Foundation. Approximately $1.5 million was designated for the purpose of establishing a scholarship fund for students who have demonstrated a potential for success in their chosen fields, contingent upon funding. These scholarships will be awarded only to students enrolled full or part-time at Yuba College and will range from a minimum of $250 to a maximum of $500 per year, depending on the number of units per semester in which the student is enrolled (i.e., $250 for 6-8˝ units; $375 for 9-11˝ units; and $500 for 12 or more units). No student will be awarded who is enrolled in less than 6 units. The scholarship is $1,000 for the second year of eligibility depending, once again, on the number of units per semester enrolled. Scholarships will be awarded for no more than four (4) semesters of attendance at Yuba College. A Major Field or Career Choise is not required, the student must merely be transferring to a baccalaureate degree granting institution. Kimerer Hayter Memorial Scholarship was created for low-income students who have a financial need and will not be receiving any other scholarship monies. This scholarship will be awarded to students enrolled full or part-time at Yuba College. The scholarship will range from a minimum of $500 to a maximum of $1,000 per semester, depending on the number of units per semester in which the student is enrolled (i.e., $500 for 6-8˝ units; $750 for 9-11˝ units and $1000 for 12 or more units) as funds are available. Students who do not successfully complete all of the units they enrolled in will be put on probation and any scholarship award in the following semester shall be reduced. Incoming/Continuing Application Deadline: April 1 Award Range: $250 - $500 Minimum GPA: In January 1992 the Stohlman scholarship was established at Yuba College for three categories of students: 1) Non-high school graduates; 2) Radiology/RN/ADN and 3) Prospective teachers K-12. Contingent upon funding. CRITERIA FOR NON-HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE STUDENT 1) Student must be a non-high school graduate who has not taken and passed the GED test or has taken and not passed all three areas of the APS test. 2) Student must not be receiving any Federal monies. 3) Scholarship will be proportional to unit load taken: 12 units or greater $500/yr 9 - 11 units $375/yr 6 - 8 units $250/yr 4) Student must have been a resident of the Yuba College District for at least one year. 5) If student receives a full-time scholarship but drops below full-time level, then the following semester the student will receive an award proportionally decreased by the same amount as the overpayment. Incoming/Continuing/Transfer Application Deadline: April 1 Award Range: $1000 (5 Recipients) Minimum GPA: 3.0 The Yuba College Foundation was endowed with a bequest in 2004 (anonymous) that would provide approximately six students each year a $2000 scholarship. The Yuba College Foundation Scholarship is primarily need-based (2.5 GPA), and gives preference to veterans and students who have been employed while in school. Students applying for the Hayter-Kimerer Scholarship will be considered automatically within this pool of applicants. Applicants may apply competitively for a second year of support. Continuing/Transfer Application Deadline: April 1 Award Range: $1000 (8 Recipients) Minimum GPA: N/A The Yuba College Endowed Scholarship is part of a statewide initiative for community colleges from the Bernard Osher Foundation. A student must be financial aid and BOG eligible. She/he must have completed 24 units of degree-applicable study and be enrolled in a minimum of 6 units during the semester in which the scholarship is distributed. (Yuba/Clear Lake/Beale) Vivian “Moms” Blanton To Whom Is This Open? Continuing Application Deadline: April 1 Award Range: $200 (2 Recipients) Minimum GPA: 3.0 This scholarship was established as a memorial to Vivian “Moms” Blanton. “Moms,” as she was affectionately called by many, “mothered” all including children and adults. The scholarship has been developed primarily to assist African American students in their educational pursuit at Yuba College. African-American students engaged in music activities at the college may be given priority because of Vivian’s love for music. The scholarship is for continuing students with a 3.0 GPA and 24 units completed. |
