Outside organizations/donors offer these general scholarships. These particular scholarships require SPECIAL APPLICATIONS and have SPECIFIC DEADLINE DATES.
Most of these scholarships are to be mailed to the address listed on the application, which may be picked up at the Financial Aid Office. Each scholarship is identified as an

| Sel-Rel Inc. (Self-Reliance) - (04/27/2010) | | To provide scholarships to full time students in all fields of study who demonstrate a genuine need for assistance that will enable them to continue their education. Students and their families should be contributing financial support to their own education whenever possible and have a 3.0 GPA. Consideration will be given to students working toward education that will contribute or give back to their community and society. Selection will include an academic evaluation and interview, with the scholarship amount determined by Sel Rel, Inc. and Financial Aid Foundation. Application available at the Financia Aid Office. |
| California Association of Pest Control Advisers (CAPCA) - (04/19/2010) | Two scholarships are available for students interested in careers in the pest management industry. These scholarships are sponsored by the California Association of Pest Control Advisers (CAPCA) and Syngenta and are administered by the Stanley W. Strew Educational Fund, Inc. | California Department of Transportation, District 3 Scholarship Program - (03/19/2010) | Your local office of the California Department of Transportation, District 3, in conjunction with the California Transportation Foundation (CTF), is pleased to announce the availability of a $500 scholarship. The scholarship is competitive and based upon the applicant’s commitment to a career in transportation, academic record and participation in extra-curricular or community-related activities. Financial need will be considered but not a primary factor. Applicants must meet the following general criteria: 1. Must be a high school senior or first or second-year college student attending school in Butte, Colusa, Glenn, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, Sierra, Sutter, Yolo, or Yuba County. 2. Must plan to pursue a career in transportation. 3. Must provide an official transcript to verify Grade Point Average (GPA) 4. Must provide a description of participation in extra-curricular and/or community-related activities. 5. | Gold Rush Flight - (03/17/2010) | | This year the Gold Rush Flight at Beale Air Force Base is sponsoring a scholarship in the amount of $2000. In 2009 we provided a $2000 scholarship to the applicant demonstrating the most potential to become a military pilot. That individual’s application was then submitted to the National Daedalian Foundation and he was awarded matching scholarship funds, bringing the total amount awarded for the scholarship to $4000. | UNITED AUBURN INDIAN COMMUNITY - (03/12/2010) | | Introduction The Tribal Council of the United Auburn Indian Community (UAIC) established its Community Giving Program for Scholarships for Native Americans to support the educational goals of other Indians in UAIC’s six county service area by giving scholarships to selected Indians enrolled in higher education programs. Funding Eligibility The UAIC Community Giving Program Scholarships for Native Americans will consider giving scholarships to students enrolled in approved post-secondary educational institutions. Scholarships are limited to Indian students who live in the following six counties: Placer, Nevada, Yuba, Sutter, Sacramento and El Dorado. To be eligible for a scholarship a student must: 1. have completed a minimum of one semester of academic studies or 12 semester units; 2. be in good standing academically as evidenced by a minimum 2.0 gpa; 3. be enrolled in a minimum of 12 units or enrolled as a part-time student (minimum 6 units) and possess full or part-time employment; 4. be able to document membership in a BIA recognized Native American tribe; 5. possess a minimum one-eighth (1/8) blood quantum; 6. complete the scholarship application, attach the required documentation and submit the package by the deadline. Ineligible for Funding The UAIC Scholarships for Native Americans are not intended to fund: • Loans • Deficits or retroactive schooling • Personal or institutional sponsorships • Umbrella or Pass-through agencies, foundations or scholarship programs Submission criteria and dates Scholarships may be applied for and are awarded once in a calendar year. Applications for the 2009 UAIC Scholarships for Native Americans Program are to be submitted to the Financial Aid Office no later than 5 pm, 15 March 2010.

| LIFE Lessons Scholarship Program - (03/10/2010) | | For students who have suffered the loss of a parent a chance to win $10,000 in scholarship funds Who is Eligible? College and college-bound students, age 17 – 24 How to Enter? Students must submit an essay (500 words max) or video (3 minutes max) describing how the death of your parent or guardian affected your life financially and emotionally. The essay or video should explain how the lack of adequate life insurance coverage (or no coverage at all) impacted your family’s finances and the ability to fund colleges costs. | Sutter Buttes Garden Club Scholarship description: - (03/09/2010) | | The board of directors and membership of the Sutter Buttes Garden Club have established a scholarship to promote and encourage career choices in the horticulture field. Each scholarship is for $1000, to be awarded in two $500 increments. All students wishing to pursue further education in the fields of Horticulture/ Landscape Design, Landscape Architecture and Floral Design are eligible to apply. The scholarship will be awarded based on the application information and essay presentation. This scholarship is awarded based on the individual student’s merit without regard to culture ancestry, religious preference or gender. At least one scholarship per year will be offered-- to either a Yuba county student or to a Sutter County student. This scholarship will be available for the school year following high school graduation, or for continuation of college level courses pertaining to horticulture. | CANFIT Scholarships - (03/04/2010) | | Nutrition, Physical Education and Culinary Arts Scholarships Undergraduate and graduate scholarships are available for California African-American, American Indian, Alaska Native, Asian American, Pacific Islander or Latino/Hispanic students expressing financial need to study nutrition, physical education or culinary arts in the state of California. Checks will be mailed to the educational institution and are to be used toward tuition and fees. By providing undergraduate and graduate scholarships, CANFIT hopes to encourage more students to consider careers that will improve adolescent nutrition and fitness. | Hearthstone Housing Foundation’s Academic Scholarship Fund - (02/25/2010) | | It is my sincere pleasure to announce the launching of Hearthstone Housing Foundation’s Academic Scholarship Fund for high school and college age youth, 16-25 years of age. This program will be made available to all residents in our housing developments and the surrounding community. Awards will be based on financial need and determination to accomplish academic goals. Awards will range from $500.00 to $5,000.00 and will be selected by an independent volunteer committee that will review each application, rank and score applications to select the recipients and levels of award. | Clear Lake Trowel and Trellis Garden Club Scholarship - (02/24/2010) | | Eligibility: Interested senior students graduating in 2010 or students who have previously graduated from a Lake County high school and are continuing their education are encouraged to apply. Students must have a 2.75 GPA or better. All of the above students are eligible to apply, however preference will be given to students who are interested in or majoring in a field related to the following: Botany, conservation, entomology, floriculture, forestry, horticulture, landscape architecture/design, biology or plant genetics, urban planning, agriculture, environmental science or related fields. Club’s $1000 scholarships should be filled out and returned by mail. | SCIENCE OR ADMINISTRATION OF JUSTICE - (02/24/2010) | Wildlife Resorce Scholarship To Whom Is This Open? Incoming/Continuing/Transfer Application Deadline: April 15 Award Range: $1200 Minimum GPA: 2.75 USE FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION Scholarship Description: The Yuba County Fish and Game Commission seek to provide a scholarship of approximately $1,200 annually to one student. The student applicant must demonstrate an interest in entering the field of Wildlife Resource Management or Wildlife Protection. The intent is to provide encouragement to students who want to major in the sciences and become a wildlife biologist with the California Department of Fish and Game or private industry or enter the field of Wildlife Protection as a Game Warden. The scholarship is limited to students entering, continuing, or transferring from the Yuba College, Marysville Campus. These funds are to be used only for expenses generated by the college such as, tuition, books, and parking, laboratory and registration fees. Preference will be given to a Yuba County resident and full time student. The student awarded the scholarship may also become eligible for additional assistance through an internship program.Candidate Qualifications: Entering science students must show success in high school science and math classes with a 2.75 GPA in math and science. Continuing science major candidates must show evidence of success by having completed a minimum of 6 units in their major field with a minimum of 2.75 GPA in those courses and agree to continue in an educational program that would lead to a Bachelor of Science Degree in the area of Wildlife Resource Management. Continuing Administration of Justice candidates must show evidence of success by having completed a minimum of 6 units in their major field with a minimum of 2.75 GPA in those courses and continue in an educational program meeting the employment qualifications of a Game Warden with the California Department of Fish and Game. The applicant must have and maintain an overall 2.75 grade point average. Administration of Justice Majors must be free of any felony convictions. Transferring students must be continuing there Science and or Administration of Justice majors in one of the California State University or University of California campuses and maintain the GPA requirements. You must include in your application package an official transcript (High School or College) indicating classes completed and GPA. You must include a 300 to 500 word essay describing your qualifications and career goals related to the Wildlife Resource Scholarship. Incoming/Continuing/Transfer Application Deadline: April 16 Award Range: $1000 Minimum GPA: N/A To provide a monetary award of $1,000.00 for a promising upper division or graduate student who shows a commitment to communicate and interpret a love of nature and an understanding of need to practice conservation. Eligibility for application is extended to any student or graduate student enrolled full-time in an accredited California post-secondary educational institution whose educational career goals clearly coincide with Emily’s interest in communicating and interpreting nature’s wonder. Students pursuing degrees in environmental protection, forestry, wildlife and fisheries biology, parks and recreation, park management, environmental law and public policy, environmental art, and California history are encouraged to apply. Dedication ideals of the scholarship will be considered at least as important as financial need in making the award. | Beale Officers’ Spouses Club Scholarship - (02/03/2010) | Beale Officers’ Spouses Club (BOSC) Scholarship Eligibility: 1. Applicant must be a dependent family member of one of the following: a. An active duty or reserve military member (Officer or Enlisted) assigned to Beale Air Force Base, or on a remote assignment with family members residing in Yuba, Sutter, Nevada, Placer, or Butte County. b. | ALERT: AARP FOUNDATION WOMEN'S SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM - (03/06/2009) | | The scholarship is open to low-income women 40+. Priority is given to women who are in one of three categories: 1) Women raising the children of another family member, 2) Those in dead end jobs and 3) Those who have been out of the paid workforce for an extended period. The scholarships, which ranged from $500 to $5,000, are to be used for tuition and books are paid directly to the educational institution. Nearly three hundred women were helped through the program in the first round and about 250 women received scholarships in round two.
