Mr. Turner has been teaching at the Yuba Community College Public Safety Center since 1994. He began his career in public safety as a security officer assigned to the Kaiser Permanente Hospitals located in Martinez and Vallejo, California. He was subsequently hired by the City of Fairfield as a Public Safety Officer/Firefighter, working in both the police and fire services. He is a graduate of the California P.O.S.T Basic Police Academy in Santa Rosa and the Solano College Fire Academy in Fairfield, California. Mr. Turner later transferred into a full-time police officer position with the City of Fairfield. He retired from the Fairfield Police Department as a Police Specialist assigned to the Youth Services Bureau.

Past law enforcement experience and/or assignments include Patrol; Detective (General Investigations Unit / C-CAP Crime Reduction Unit); S.W.A.T.; Crime Scene Evidence Technician; Youth Service Bureau Diversion Counselor; School Resource Officer; Field Training Officer, and Youth Services/Missing Persons Police Specialist. Mr. Turner successfully developed the first middle schools officer program in the City of Fairfield under the auspices of the California Department of Justice. He was awarded the Fairfield City Manager’s Commendation Award for his work in developing the position.

Mr. Turner has completed a variety of specialized training schools and courses, including FBI sponsored S.W.A.T School and other Advanced S.W.A.T. training; DEA Drugs and Narcotics Investigations; P.O.S.T. 11550 Drug Influence Certification; California Department of Justice Homicide and Violent Crimes Investigations; Behavior Analysis Training Institute - Interviewing and Interrogation; Bob Bondurant Law Enforcement Driving Academy and other advanced emergency vehicle training; P.O.S.T Certified Firearms Instructor; Sirchie Finger Print Laboratories-Law Enforcement Training Center Graduate (Crime Scene Evidence/Basic Narcotics Identification Certification); Crime Scene Reconstruction and Sexually Violent Crimes, George Mason University, VA; Krav Maga Hand to Hand Combat Training Summer Camps; International Tactical Training Seminars, Los Angeles, CA and Frontsight Tactical Firearms Training Courses, Las Vegas, NV; and many other law enforcement related training courses. Mr. Turner earned an Advanced P.O.S.T Law Enforcement Certificate, and a California Board of Firefighter Services Firefighter 1 Certificate. He graduated with an A.S. degree in Corrections and an A.A. degree in Law Enforcement from Solano Community College; B.A. degree in Human Relations, Golden Gate University, San Francisco; and M.P.A. degree, National University, San Diego.

Mr. Turner was born in Oakland, California and has spent most of his life living in the Bay Area. Prior to working in the field of public safety and teaching, Mr. Turner completed two years of missionary work in the states of Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. Mr. Turner has achieved his life-long dream of living in the country, where he resides in the beautiful mountains of Nevada County. This is where he spends the majority of his leisure time, hiking, shooting, fishing, riding his ATV, gardening, raising fruit trees, and spending time with his family. Mr. Turner enjoys traveling and U.S. history and he has visited nearly every state in the Union. He is happily married and is the father of six children. He is also actively involved in scouting and is currently serving as a local Scoutmaster.

Mr. Turner believes strongly in the admonition of John Cotton Dana, "Who dares to teach must never cease to learn."
