Welcome to the wonderful world of microbes! Microbiology is a wonderful, challenging course that will introduce you to the unseen life on earth that affects every aspect of life...imagine a world without cheese, wine, bread, kimchee, yogurt, chocolate and beer.

I did not come to biology directly. I have a double major in Geography and Development Studies from UC Berkeley (1993), and then I completed all my science prerequisites at my local community college and state university before entering the Doctoral program in Microbiology at UC Berkeley in 1997.

Many of my instructors in community college fostered my love of biology and chemistry, and also allowed me to explore my interest in teaching, by allowing me to act as a teaching assistant in their classes. It was these experiences that solidified my desire to teach, especially at the community college level.
