Chancellor's WelcomeDr. Houston

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, faculty, administration and staff, I welcome you to the exciting learning environment of the Yuba Community College District.

As a growing District, YCCD spans eight counties and nearly 4200 square miles of territory in rural, north-central California.  Its two colleges, Yuba College and Woodland Community College, offer degrees, certificates and transfer curricula at college campuses in Marysville and Woodland, an educational center in Clearlake, and through outreach operations in Williams and on Beale Air Force Base. An additional 55,000 sq. ft. educational center, under construction in Yuba City, is scheduled to open Fall 2012.

The new 40,000 sq. ft. Health and Public Safety Training Center on the Marysville campus opens in 2011-12, and new facilities are being constructed at all five campus locations as part of the District’s $190 million facilities bond program, passed in 2006 by local voters, who strongly support the District and its colleges.

The Colleges’ highly-qualified faculty provide both traditional and non-traditional instruction in a wide array of arts and sciences, career technical education, and athletic programs, many with national recognition and award-winning accomplishments. The college is a leader in the state for hybrid automotive technology, and has embarked on a progressive program for sustainability, education, and training for green collar professionals and technicians.

An extensive distributive education program with enhanced classroom technology, wireless access, and on-line classes is in place to enhance teaching and learning for the nearly 16,000 headcount of students enrolled annually across the District.

Administrative and classified staff provide a full range of strong support services for a highly diverse, amazingly talented student population. We strive to provide learning opportunities and support services that prepare students for the contemporary workplace, to be contributing members of society, and to pursue future educational goals.

Both colleges are regionally accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, with their next evaluation visits scheduled for Fall 2012.

Please enjoy your exploration of the YCCD web site to learn of the many exciting educational opportunities available in our District.
