Prerequisite Challenge

Course placement is determined by a process within the testing system which uses test scores and other information supplied by the student to determine appropriate placements. Students who wish to challenge their recommended placement or a prerequisite should be prepared to give evidence or justification why the exemption should be granted. Reasons for seeking a prerequisite waiver may include one or more of the following:

• Prerequisite course is not available,
• Prerequisite has not been validated,
• Student has knowledge or ability to succeed in course without meeting the prerequisite, or
• Student believes the prerequisite is discriminatory or is being applied in a discriminatory manner.

Check with a counselor, your site administrator, testing office, or the Dean of Student Development to obtain the required form.

Challenges to prerequisite/co-requisite shall be on the approved form filed at the location where the student registers for the majority of her/his classes. Challenges at the Yuba College Marysville Campus should be filed with the Dean of Student Development. Challenges at other locations should be filed with the Executive Dean at the Clear Lake Campus or the Vice President of Academic and Student Services at Woodland Community College.
